Reconnecting the Diaspora: One Postcard and Passport at a Time

June is officially here, and with it comes a time of deep pride, reflection, and celebration: Caribbean American Heritage Month. For those of us navigating the beautiful intersection of our island roots and our lives in the states, this month is a powerful reminder that culture doesn’t stop at the shoreline. The traditions, the rhythms, and the shared lingo travel with us, woven tightly into the fabric of the global diaspora.
To anchor our celebrations this year, we are launching something incredibly close to our hearts: the Postcards & Passports series.
This project isn’t just a creative concept; it’s a living movement designed to bridge the physical distance between the islands and the diaspora. Every passport represents our journey, the paths we carve out in new cities while carrying our heritage forward. Every postcard is a physical piece of home, carrying the vibrant artwork, the familiar lingo, and the unspoken understandings that connect us across oceans and generations.
Too often, the diaspora experience can feel like existing in two worlds at once, balancing the nostalgia for the soil we came from with the reality of where we currently stand. This Caribbean American Heritage Month, we are using Postcards & Passports to turn that distance into a bridge. We are tracking the movement of our stationery as it travels through hands and homes across the diaspora, serving as a tangible token of connection.
When one of our cards arrives in a mailbox, it carries more than a message, it carries the warmth of the sun, the spirit of cultural preservation, and a reminder that no matter how far we scatter, we are part of one deeply rooted community.
Through every stamp, every destination, and every shared sentiment, we are celebrating our heritage by strengthening the ties that keep the Caribbean spirit thriving worldwide.
Pull out your pens, open your hearts, and join us on this journey. Happy Caribbean American Heritage Month!
